What is HIPAA compliance?

HIPAA compliance requires that healthcare providers protect patients’ privacy and personal information. HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, a federal regulatory standard enacted in 1996.

HIPAA laws are regulated by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and enforced by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
