What is PCI DSS?

PCI DSS stands for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, a set of guidelines developed by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council to ensure that any company that processes or stores credit cards takes certain steps to secure customer data. These standards apply to all the major credit card providers: MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.
