What is a CIO?

A CIO, or Chief Information Officer, is a high-level executive who oversees an organization's entire IT operation. They are essentially the leader of the IT department, but their role has evolved far beyond just managing technical infrastructure.

Management and Operations:

  • Budget Management: CIOs are responsible for managing the IT budget and ensuring efficient allocation of resources for hardware, software, and IT projects.
  • IT Operations: They oversee the day-to-day operations of the IT department, ensuring the smooth functioning of IT systems and infrastructure.

If the organization does not have a CISO, the CIO is at the forefront of the organization's cybersecurity defense. They are responsible for building a robust security posture, mitigating risks, and ensuring the organization is prepared to respond to cyber incidents effectively.
