What are NIST 800-53 Controls?

The National Institute of Standards and Technology released Special Publication 800-53, “Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems” in 2005. It is a set of guidelines for federal agencies to follow to maintain the highest IT security level. There have been several updates to the catalog over the years, with the latest published in September 2020. Learn about NIST 800-53 Rev 5 here.
